Miss Jessies-Au Natural

So today I went to Wilshire Blvd to attend the )Miss Jessies event, upon arrival I ran into Kethia who I am a faithful reader of her blog titled “Flaunt Files” check her out here:http://theflauntfiles.blogspot.com/

I greeted her at the door and proceeded to blurt out OOOOOOHHHH I know you(she looked at me like uuuuuhhh do I know you??? lol good times) anyways she is the reason for ME, finding out about the event. (i heart blogs) We must have chatted for like 30mins about how I stumbled upon her blog, her nails–these looked just like the minx, hair care, the event and how she got started…… we took pics and she gave me her card so we could keep in touch…I need to get sum cards made BTW… I honestly think its much more classier, and chic then pulling out your cell phone-dont you?

Well me and Tiff; My homegurl I went up there with… she was famished so we had to stop for water and snacks before entering the area where they were having the demos.

Let me tell you it was a Au Natural Frenzy up in that piece, I aint never seen nor ever saw sooooo many females with Healthy, shiny, long, soft, curly, colorful, and best of all natural hair.DSCF3107

I felt at home!!! Although I’ve only been natural for about 10months I feel different and empowered to have my natural hair in its original kinky state…I feel so much more stronger and powerful–an let me tell you natural hair is a lot of work as -Weezy F. Baby says “tougher than Nigerian hair”

I love the sisters TiTi, and Miko, their so gorgeous and beautiful!!!! Me and tiff only waited an hour in our tall ass heels… as tiffany kept saying “I need the makers of this shyt to tell me how to use this product, I don’t want nobody else telling ME!!! How to use the product they invented” and I didnt argue with that…. so while the three of us waited… yes we gained a friend…while waiting we met a woman very nice, and sweet who was latin, I swear this chic new every single curly hair product out there she blew my mind she was so Knowledgeable about black hair care gwan ahead gurl!!!!

We made her go first because she was already an expert and knew exactly what she needed…a woman with a plan….then there was me, I was still reviewing what I wanted to ask, and Tiff she jus knew she wanted Miko to do her hair ( In me and tiffs minds we were already BFF’s with Miko, I wanted to meet Miko too but TiTi seemed like she knew how to approach my un-kinky state of hair!!-GOOD CHOICE)

Then tiff went…*funny joke* the sisters cousin came up there and they were snapping family pics real quick… tell me why tiff was all up in they family photos like she was apart of the family LMAO!!!!

Miko about to do tiffs hair

Miko about to do tiffs hair

And last but not least me…I wasnt able to have an actual demo because I was rocking the flat iron look but since TiTi is the bomb she was able to tell me what to do with my hair after me briefly giving her a review of my natural hair specs

All in all, we were there for 3hours and it was a packed house!!! If you had any doubts let me tell you look no further Miss Jessie’s hair product are very good and have excellent results, I ended up purchasing the curly buttercream it smells amazing and it will be able to bring more elasticity to the “tougher then Nigerian hair” that I have pre-product. Every woman that had demos done to their hair…. let me tell you thier hair was laid out proper….Check out thier product if you took the leap of faith to go natural!!!!!

Updates on my progression

black_imagery_gallery_08So today I received an e-mail from my recruiter asking me when I would like to take my winter break. Here are the exact works from the email: “hi Monique, the school wants you to choose your winter break time between the two.
1.Dec 23 to 31st
2. Feb 15 to 28th
please let me know which one.”

So with that being said, it has become a reality for me today that this will be the first Christmas EVER!! That I spend away from my family…..the Dali lama did say this year that “In order to measure your success, you must look at what you had to sacrifice” I knew this would apply to me somehow this year I just didn’t know how big—-GULP

I decided to go with door number two….and even then I don’t think I will be flying back to the states…no Christmas, No valentine–great just great. I’ll probably end up flying to Japan to visit a friend of mine during the Christmas break or maybe Africa WHO the hell knows, I just know this is becoming bigger then my deepest, wildest dreams.

Movie Picks

So since I have a lot of time to kill I have been biting my time by renting movies from Blockbuster… I hope they don’t go out of bizness they have some classics. Anyways I have a new love affair for foreign movies–although you have to read the subtitles, foreign movies have a very introspective storytelling style, the plots are never predictable and I am sucker for a really good script. The other reason I been watching foreign movies is to get acclimated with language barriers and just plain old not understanding what their saying (this can be scary so if you have never been to another country this could make the transition smoother)

Here are my top selections of this week

    1. Volver(comedic but dramatic reminded me of destinos)

    2. The Edge of Heaven ( awww man this was a well made movie; two thumbs up, must see...talk about 6-degrees of separation)

    3. Le Petite Jerusalem (very good!!!)

      Honorable mentions:

    4. 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days(very heavy and deep stuff here, loved it)
    5. Vicky Cristina Barcelona (hated the narrator loved the movie. Most of it is in English) Penelope is so feisty
    6. She’s one of Us (horrible, I couldn’t get past the first 10mins)

You need to have a lot of patience…and I do mean A LOT

my shirt describes my very thoughts.....wanting to see you

I just received a call from my recruiter tonight that I need to resend my contract….I’m fuming— why might one be fuming??? Well…. considering the first package of documents I sent to South Korea cost me $93 and sum change to assure me guaranteed shipment in 3days, then to find out a week later 3 out of the 10 docs needed to be resubmitted because of efficiency. That resubmit cost me $27 and sum change…now tonight I get another phone call from my recruiting telling me that “I must resubmit my contract”—-“ WHAT?!?” I ever-so-lightly-screamed…..well due to the processing of this whole mess taking so long (I’m already supposed to have been at the school) they need to realign the year-to-year contract–meaning the dates need to match from the actual start of my teaching…so another $27 and sum change will be spent to resend my 3 copies of the contract….I swear if they tell me one more thing…..My advice to you would be to call and harass your recruiter to make sure everything is double checked, triple checked and quadruple checked because if not, it could pro-long this whole process another month as it is ringing true to my situation. If you are not using a recruiter, I pray for your sanity in advance…

Hampton must come along TOO!!!

wake me when the visa arrives

wake me when the visa arrives

Its Wednesday, or shall I say Early Thursday…were getting down to the wire and frankly i’m not sleeping much–so ready!!! Anyway I am still awaiting my recruiter’s response on my newly submitted documents, I must scurry behind the scenes and prepare for immediate departure it could be any day now. I found out in order to bring Hampton with me to South Korea and  without surrendering him to quarantine(your dog can die in quaranine-no lies) I must have 2 certificates signed off on by the USDA vets(1. health certificate and 2.a rabies certificate)-go figure there are only two in CALI (Sacramento & LA) since Hampton is more than up to date on his shots- this ain’t no thang….jus time, money, and the opportunity to kick in it with my homegurl before I leave. The LA office is only open M-F and they only stamp certificates between the hours of 8am-11am; so research your local USDA vet for more details on your situation.

I cant lie i’m very nervous about bringing Hampton with me to another country, i’m not nervous about the plane ride or the new surroundings(hammys like me, hes a G and he can adapt/adept to his surroundings) i’m nervous for when i want to take a quick weekender to Hong Kong or Japan…i hear there are dog sitting groups, and people out there with meetups. But I do NOT, i repeat I do NOT allow hammy to stay with just anybody. I have had him for 3years and he has only stayed with my immediate family or my 2best friends(I was still very leery).

Today I also dealt with closing down banks accounts, I am so DONE with banks, I belong to a credit union now!!!!!! Completely differtent in the way they approach YOU as a customer versus the flipside of a BANK(accesibility) YESSSSS i’m a member -hahahah. I completely recommend you opening one if that is at all possible for you, this is important for those that have concerns about how you will manage your money and finances while overseas….stay tuned.

Anticipating my Depature…this is very nerve wracking !!!

So I’m finally getting over the frustration/Drama that went down on what seemed to be a good Friday.

At 9:30a.m. I was awakened by my phone ringing, this call was in regards to my banking situation which I will get into later on—for now lets stick to the DRAMA. After I concluded my conversation with the Banks something told me to check my email…duh-duh-duuuuuuhhhhhh I received an email from my beloved recruiter Soon, BTW I like Soon hes cool peoples, hes a man of his word and that means a lot in this bizness especially if you decide to follow my path…anyways the email was entitled: Monique-docs arrived but…….my heart instantly stopped(I traced my brain to think what I could have possibly screwed up…I then thought i don’t like buts unless we talken about bootys and that’s not what we talken about) enclosed was this email; “hi Monique, 1. crc – it has to be statewide, but yours is county wide, therefore, you need to do it again from California Police Department2. TESL certificate – it has to show how many hour long (100 hour long – minimum)3. passport type photo – has to be colored.
can you gather these ones again?”

I know your thinking to yourselves whats the big deal Monique just resend the stuff and be on your merry way……oh but its not so easy. I had just finished spending $93.28 to express deliver this package to South Korea so that it would arrive by the end of the week so I, Monique could be sitting pretty on a plane by OCT 19th( this is my pops birthday) with her E-2 visa……Soon my recruiter is a savior because all I wanted to do was cuss his ass out for giving me the wrong info(be sure your recruiter never rushes you into getting the E-2 visa this is your golden ticket to working abroad carefree, make sure its done!!! and done right!!! they are cracking down harder and harder on illegal teachers)

Long story short I had to come out the pocket another $110 reason being

1. I had to get another CRC(criminal record check) redone because the state of California does not issue out a “STATEWIDE” crc. Only county (cali’s too gotdamn big and were broke) this crc was published in the state of Washington(yes I’m aware I’m not from there but since theirs are statewide its valid…..with S.Korean govt its all about the wording not the context….already learning) Soon my recruiter….he’s a ‘G’ at what he does……. he already had a backup plan of how to get this done without waisting MORE time, yes MORE money but NO on the time– remember that as well (i swear hes like brotha man from Martin, always gotta connect, always gotta be on his grizzly)

2. I had to re-print out 2 Color passport size photos( i used black and white, that’s what was recommended to me but apparently the school wanted color) that was easy…word to the wise ‘use photos of you that show some personality….no mug shot type photos’—Koreans are very into looks so ladies use photos where light make-up has been applied, or fresh faced as I like to call it and gentleman more of the GQ/modelesque look….for some schools these are the only photos they have to base their decisions on so make it a lasting impression(say cheeese 🙂

3. I immediately drove to the school where i was TESOL certified (loved this fucken class it was the shyt) before i drove there i pre-warned Christina what had went down earlier in regards to the e-mail, she calmed me down and said she could reprint my TESOL transcript at no cost. This was important because this was the form that had stated I had spent 120hours being certified–she also typed a personal letter of reference pertaining to the validity of the hours….i f-in luv Christina too she has been the shyt throughout this whole experience BTW i met Christina because we both were taking the TESOL training class but she ended up becoming a director for the school so she has definitely spoiled me!!!!!!!

phhhhhhhhhewwwww after all that it was 4:15p.m when I walked to the US post office to drop off my package once again the package was departing to S.Korea, only this time i sent it regular express so the package will be there by Oct. the 14th fine by me—it only cost me $27 and sum change…..I’m broke

now I’m off to sell my 2004 Honda Accord—-ahhhh it never ends stay tuned
